Barrier-free structures in public transportation

Pavol Korček

SUMMARY

In present time, travelling is a common and daily part of our life. We are travelling to work, to school or for the rest. It is a very simple activity. But it is important to know that there are people who have to pass many barriers and problems, when they want to travel – disabled (handicapped) people. Now we are confronting the problem how to make transport buildings more accessible and more comfortable for disabled people. This is a role for architects, they have to know and be able to apply basic principles of the barrier-free (universal) design. The basic premise for design of barrier-free environment is to analyze and define existing barriers and problems in the transport buildings, which is also the main topic of this text.
