Appraising the quality of environmental impact assessment process of land use planning documentation

SUMMARY

Environmental appraisal of land use planning documentation is in focus of this contribution. It explains and describes the legislation background of appraisal together with the principles and directions of its own procedure. First experience is summarised and future directions are outlined. Great attention is also paid to the quality of the environmental appraisal of already elaborated and approved land use planning documentation at both regional and local levels. There are many weaknesses to be solved. The contribution is concluded with the proposed procedural stages of environmental appraisal as well as with methodological issues.
