The change of architectural education paradigm at the FA STU

Julián Keppl

SUMMARY

Changing social and economical environment in Slovakia has a significant impact on the way of teaching and training the students at the Faculty of Architecture STU in Bratislava. Study becomes more open, which means a need to deal with an issue of the number of students, situation on the labour market, arising competition of other new architectural schools in Slovakia etc. The paper discusses some important effects, which are necessary to take into account in new conception of architectural education at the FA STU. To employ fifty-years-old methods of the founders of the school is inappropriate. A crucial need arises to adopt education of young architects to the standards of leading European architectural schools and to new requirements of changing society in Slovakia.
