SUMMARY
The profile of a graduate of the former Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering (FAPS) was directed towards the utilitarian buildings, with a more social than temporal approach. Even nowadays most of the graduates will have to solve more utilitarian problems than problems of extravagance. A very important part of education will be to prepare the graduates for team work and to combine theory and creation. The priority status in the structure of the FA STU should involve those departments which have been developed in the course of the last 50 years from the institutes led by such celebrities as Beluš, Karfík, Lacko, Hruška, Koula. There should be also better cooperation between the departments.
