SUMMARY The paper underlines the connection between the built environment and the basic requirements determined by structural physics. They are mainly concerned with sunlight in dwelling, thermal and acoustic comfort and energy consumption. To fulfill these requirements efficiently, it is necessary to design according to the concepts of dispositions and volumes.
